Jodie Root is an experienced senior healthcare executive with substantial understanding of healthcare operations across diverse functional areas and organizations. In addition to operations, Ms. Root has deep familiarity with the design and delivery of care management products and services, clinical program development and practice transformation and performance improvement.
Ms. Root currently contributes her expertise in practice transformation and team building as senior fellow of the Collaborative Care Institute, Center for Spirituality and Healing, University of Minnesota. The Collaborative Care Institute provides learning experiences, certification programs and consulting services needed to empower the workforce to take an active role in changing how effective, efficient care is delivered, experienced and reimbursed.
Ms. Root is also currently working as a consultant, board member and interim chief operating officer for the Practice Transformation Institute (PTI), located in Rochester, Michigan. Root is responsible for development of products and services for experiential learning that support meaningful change and improvement in medical practices, including implementation of the principles of the Patient Centered Medical Home. In addition to the development of PTI and its curriculum and services, she is responsible for building the practice coach training program and serves as director of the Mackinac Learning Collaborative-III.
During her career, Ms. Root has served as executive vice president, operations and strategic development for CareGuide, a company providing healthcare management services to health plans, work/life companies, government entities and self-funded employers. She was vice president with Cardiocom Multi-Disease Management, located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she led sales and marketing and drove the advancement of home telemonitoring in the healthcare industry.
As vice president, clinical programs with Optum/UnitedHealth Group Ms. Root held a senior leadership role in developing market solutions for care management and disease management services. Her experience also includes responsibility for contracting for transplantation and cancer management services with United Resource Networks/UnitedHealth Group.
Prior to working for UnitedHealth Group, Ms. Root held positions with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota and Blue Care Network/BCBS Michigan where she had responsibility for provider contracting and network management. She served for several years in leadership positions in academic practice management at University of Michigan and The Ohio State University Medical Centers. While at University of Michigan she also held the role of executive director of the NIH-supported Diabetes Research and Training Center.
Ms. Root received a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Health Sciences from Grand Valley State University and earned her MBA degree at Loyola University of Chicago while serving as Director, Medical School Admissions and then Assistant Dean at Loyola Stritch School of Medicine.
